| The GNGH Foundation operates under its own charter of incorporation as an independent organization. The GNGH Foundation Board of Directors are representatives from the community of Niagara Falls. Staff report to the GNGH Foundation's Board of Directors. While we work closely with the Niagara Health System we operate independently to best represent the needs of the community. Therefore, the Foundation is representing you, the donor, and the residents of Niagara Falls. |
Donations to the Greater Niagara General Hospital
Foundation, are used to purchase equipment for the Greater
Niagara General, or can be applied towards regional programs
such as the Walker Family Cancer Centre, Cardiac
Catheterization Unit, In-patient Mental Health Unit, or the
DeGroote School of Medicine (McMaster University satellite
site in Niagara Falls).
Every year the medical staff (doctors and allied health care
professionals) from the Greater Niagara General identify
equipment they need to diagnose and/or treat patients here
in Niagara Falls. In 2009 the equipment list is estimated at
$6.2 million. Equipment on this list is either new to the hospital
or is being used to replace older, out-dated
equipment.
Donations can either come as designated or undesignated
gifts.
Designated gifts are identified by the donor to be used for a
specific application, such as a particular piece of equipment
(for example, IV pump, hospital bed, etc.) or in support of a
particular department (radiology, Emergency Room, etc.).
These gifts tie the GNGH Foundation and its Board of
Directors to purchase equipment as the donor chooses. If the
equipment is not needed at the time, the donation will be held
in trust until such time as the equipment is needed.
Please note: designating a gift without talking to the GNGH
Foundation staff may lock your gift for a purpose that is not
needed by the hospital and could delay releasing the money to
be used by the doctors and allied health professionals in
providing the necessary care to patients at the Greater
Niagara General. GNGH Foundation staff can best direct you
to making a designated gift that has purpose and relevance to
healthcare in Niagara Falls.

need) allows the GNGH Foundation and its Board of Directors
to apply the money to areas that are in greatest need of
